ABOUT
Hi, I'm Aly. I'm a photographer and videographer based in Edinburgh, working with organisations across Scotland who are doing interesting things and need the visuals to match.
I was born in Scotland and grew up in Edinburgh, Brussels, and London. I've had a lifelong fascination with art, which led me to study sculpture at Gray's in Aberdeen before pursuing a growing interest in photography and film in Glasgow. After that, I spent years freelance assisting in London and Edinburgh, working alongside some of the best fashion, advertising and lifestyle photographers in the UK. That grounding shaped how I approach every shoot: technically strong, creatively considered, and always focused on the story.
I built my own practice around a passion for the arts, working with theatres, galleries and cultural institutions. That has since grown to include charities, universities, corporate clients, PR and design agencies, and community outreach projects. The common thread across all of it is people. I'm drawn to work that involves real stories, real communities, and real impact.
HOW I WORK
Whether I'm documenting an event, filming an interview, or art-directing a portrait session, my approach stays the same: I put people at ease, I pay attention to what matters, and I work to understand your aims before I pick up the camera. I've been told my strength lies in capturing images that feel authentic while still looking polished and professional, the kind of work that's ready to go straight into your reports, campaigns, websites and social media.
For video work, I take the same approach. I encourage natural interviews and honest moments, then shape the material in the edit to fit your message and your project's aims. The result is films that communicate clearly and with sensitivity.
When a project needs a more planned visual approach, I collaborate with clients to design the look and feel of the shoot, whether that's product photography, lifestyle campaigns, portraits, or promotional images for posters and branding. I enjoy the creative problem-solving of making images that stand out and elevate your message.
