I recently filmed the third annual Intangible Cultural Heritage Scotland Conference, held at Perth Theatre on 14 November. Organised by the ICH Scotland Partnership, which brings together TRACS (Traditional Arts and Culture Scotland), Creative Scotland, Historic Environment Scotland and Museums Galleries Scotland, the conference brought together artists, tradition-bearers, heritage professionals and policymakers under the theme Moving Forward with Living Heritage.
The day featured talks, performances and community-led case studies, with contributions from master kilt-maker Marion Foster, traditional dance specialist Pat Ballantyne, Scots singer and artist Quinie, and storyteller Jess Smith. The conference came at a significant moment, with Scotland's national inventory of Living Heritage about to launch following the UK Government's ratification of the 2003 UNESCO Convention on Intangible Cultural Heritage.
A room full of remarkable people doing brilliant work to safeguard Scotland's traditions of music, song, storytelling, dance, crafts and indigenous languages. A real privilege to be there to capture it.
