Exciting to see a fantastic new community library opening today. I was there with the Edinburgh International Book Festival team to capture press and PR shots of the official opening of Ratho Library by Her Majesty Queen Camilla. The new build is part of a bigger project called Paper Trails, launched in partnership between Edinburgh City Libraries and the Book Festival.
The Queen was given a tour by Sir Ian Rankin (Deputy Lieutenant) and Jenny Niven (Director of Edinburgh International Book Festival). She met library staff, volunteers, young writers from the Book Festival’s “Citizen Collective”, nursery children, and members of the local community.
She officially opened the building, launching the Paper Trails initiative. That programme will extend Book Festival activities year-round in libraries, mobile library services, care homes and underserved areas.
