On Location: Farming, Trees & 250 Years of Land in the Borders
I headed down to Abbey St Bathans in the Borders to photograph James Dobie for Scottish Forestry's Integrating Trees Network. James farms a 1,400-acre upland sheep farm on an estate that's been in his family for over 250 years, and he's a brilliant example of how trees and farming can work hand in hand. I shot portraits of James on the farm and captured the landscape to illustrate how he's integrated woodland into his land management, from shelter and shade for livestock to t

Hamish Hawk on Calton Hill for Edinburgh International Book Festival
Had this fun shoot yesterday with the brilliant Hamish Hawk and the team from the Edinburgh International Book Festival. Hamish is launching his album, a Book Festival-commissioned tribute to Ivor Cutler. ‘Life in a Scotch Sitting Room’ has stories and songs rooted in his Edinburgh childhood, woven with the timeless eccentric brilliance of Cutler. We really made a cosy home for ourselves at the top of Calton Hill with a mobile “Scotch sitting room” setup!

Portraits for Aegon’s Money:Mindshift Podcast at Finiflex Studios
I headed down to Finiflex recording studio in Leith to shoot portraits for Aegon's Money:Mindshift podcast. The podcast is hosted by Dr. Thomas Mathar, a behavioural economics expert and author, and it's all about shifting people's mindset around money, tackling the taboos and making financial wellbeing more accessible and human. We captured Dr. Tom in action during a recording session and grabbed some portraits for use across Aegon's marketing. It was really nice to get to k

James Brining: New Artistic Director at the Lyceum
I had the pleasure of photographing and filming an interview with James Brining, the new Artistic Director of the Lyceum Theatre, as he takes over from David Greig. Over the past 11 years I’ve had the chance to work with three of the Lyceum’s artistic directors and it is always a privilege to work for the theatre. We managed to capture a lot in one shoot, exploring locations inside the building and even heading up onto the rooftop with Edinburgh Castle as our backdrop. The po

Gary McNair at the Lauriston Bar for A Gambler’s Guide to Dying
I shot a portrait of Gary McNair, writer-performer of A Gambler’s Guide To Dying , for the Traverse. We met at the Lauriston Bar in Glasgow, a place suspended in time, with wood paneling, old leather chairs and a feel like walking into a bar in the 70s. A fantastic location for capturing character and atmosphere. A Gambler’s Guide To Dying is Gary’s award winning solo show about his grandad, who won a fortune betting on the 1966 World Cup and then gambled it all on living lon

Jenny Niven, Director of Edinburgh International Book Festival
I had the pleasure of photographing Jenny Niven, Director of the Edinburgh International Book Festival. The shoot took place at the Edinburgh Futures Institute, the festival’s new home, and the aim was to create a versatile portrait for use across their communications. Jenny was a dream to work with and it was great to have a few hours with her to find locations and the perfect light on location. Special thanks to Sarah Drummond from Premier for all her support on the day.

As part of a commission with Nuclear Restoration Services I was asked to document some of the community projects they support. I visited Lochshore Park Hub, a newly built community centre in Beith, where volunteers are involved in gardening, landscaping, litter picking, creating woodland walks and pathways and running projects that encourage biodiversity. I captured candids and environmental portraits of the groups for use in communications by both NRS and the Hub. The volunt
